As reported in RSCPublishing, Tejal Desai and UCSF colleagues have engineered a polymer-based microdevice which can controllably deliver cancer drugs into the body in the form of an easy-to-swallow pill. The device, which uses hydrogel as a means of drug delivery, allows cancer patients to be treated better, more effectively and with fewer side effects.

The Q-Games!Save the date: Friday, September 12th at 4:00pm. The second annual Q-Games are just around the corner. Back and better than ever, the Q-Games are an opportunity for qb3 staff, students and faculty to break out of the lab and "go outside and play". There will be fun and food to be had by all. Come out and enjoy the company, games, and sun!
qb3-UCSF Admin RelocatesFrom August 13 through October, the personnel in the QB3 Administrative Offices (currently BH-214) will be temporarily relocated to the Byers Hall 3rd floor North neighborhood. All phone and mail code numbers will remain the same. Modifications to the offices in order to achieve more efficient use of the space will commence near the end of August. Dust should be contained, but there will be some noise associated with the work. Should there be problems stemming from the construction, please contact Lois at cliftogrady@ucsf.edu or x4-4664.
Lactation Room in Byers HallComplete at last, the Byers Hall Lactation Room is available for use by UCSF personnel as well as any guest to the campus. Any woman wishing to use the room can check the link under "Resources" for details and access information.
UCSF Business ClubThe business club is designed to provide the opportunity for students and postdocs at UCSF to learn about business in science. The Business Club has a special emphasis in the fields of management consulting, venture capital, investment banking, and business development. The Business Club at UCSF hosts a series of regular meetings with seminars by guest speakers from each of these fields as well as case interview preparation sessions. All students and postdocs at UCSF are welcome to attend.
Postdoc Jobs: Nanofab and MEMSShuvo Roy, PhD. is our newest Principle Investigator and he's establishing a Biomedical Microdevices Laboratory here at qb3-UCSF. Dr. Roy has posted two postdoctoral fellow positions (click blue "Research" button then "Jobs"). One involves the development of implantable MEMS (microelectronmechanical systems) sensors and wireless telemetry for physiological monitoring applications. The other involves development of silicon nanopore membranes for bio-filtration applications. ...read more
